You may get a bit confused by the two preceding paragraphs? Let me explain about stereo power rating briefly for you. What Wattage is Suitable For A Car Stereo?įor a car stereo to be powerful enough to significantly improve the quality of your driving experience, it will need an amplifier with at least 20-30 watts of RMS power output per speaker (two or four speakers).Īnything over 60 peak watts per channel is usually enough for most vehicles, and a power output of 100 watts at peak or more isn’t unheard of. While the Double DIN units are on the upper side, the single-DIN systems are conventionally on the lower half of the range, typically at around 5 to 10 watts of RMS watts. Because of this, most standard factory car stereos do not provide an impressive on-road stereo experience. The wattage of a factory car stereo ranges from around 5 to 15 watts per channel. This article discusses what factors to take into consideration when choosing which wattage to go with for getting optimal performance out of your car stereo system. Some say that anything over 50 watts is too much for most vehicles, while others claim that 500 watts can be used successfully in some cars. Click here to PM me if you have questions or issues!Watts are a measure of power, and the more powerful your car stereo is, the better it will sound.īut how many watts do you need? Different manufacturers offer different opinions on this question.

If you take the time with the audio settings (there are advanced settings on both where you can adjust frequency ranges (not just bass and treble l, so like 80hz, 500hz, 1mhz, 10mhz, ect). Both will push your front speakers well, both have good preouts for systems, and with enough time in the settings (tgis applies more for Alpine than Pioneer), you can really make good quality sound for your ears. Id say get either a Pioneer or an Alpine and call it a day. Kicker and Alpine are by far the loudest tho. Post added at 10:36 PM - Previous post was at 10:29 PM -įor head units, Pioneer is by FAR the best for quality. Name brand head units have better internals, such as better memory, better laser eyes, better capacitors, better cooling, better pre amp outs, as well as they last longer. Factory head units have 15 watt MAX per channel, which is nothing and the reason they dont have good quality. At 22watt RMS, you will be pushing it pretty hard and WAY over its recommended rms rating. Please keep in mind, factory speakers range from 15watt to 35watt MAX rating.
